Airzone Kitesurfing School, New Zealand

Experience the amazing sport of kitesurfing in one of New Zealand’s best kiteboarding spots, with Airzone Kitesurfing School.

If you just want to feel the thrill of kitesurfing, we can get you rushing through the water in an action packed one-day taster session. If you want to become a true kitesurfer, we can teach you the theory and skills you need to get up and going, and the safety knowledge that gives you the confidence to go it alone. You can choose a one or two day lesson, or add as many days as you want to create the kitesurfing course that suits you.

With the latest equipment and top-level IKO/BKSA instruction, you will progress quickly and safely. We provide everything, so all you need to bring is yourself ready for a day out at the beach.

Kitesurfing courses

1 day taster - $175 – A full-on kitesurfing experience day. Power yourself through the water with the kite, and get a real feeling for this exciting sport. The one day course does not cover all the safety training necessary for progression on your own as a kitesurfer.

2 day course - $325 – A more complete kitesurfing course. Two days covers all the elements you need to become a kitesurfer. Use the kite to get you where you want to go, learn the safety systems and self-rescue techniques, and get on the board. Aim to achieve IKO level 1 – 2.

3 day course - $445 – Add an extra day to build up your skills and confidence (until you are ready to go solo).

Kitesurfing school location

We are based on the Karikari Peninsula in Doubtless Bay, between the Bay of Islands and 90 Mile Beach. If you are making the trip between these two must-see destinations we are a perfect place to stop along the way.

Because we are on a peninsula we have a choice of beaches to suit all wind directions. And we can choose between waves and flat water.  This makes the Karikari Peninsula one of the best places in New Zealand to kitesurf – some have said the world. Most of our teaching takes place on the safe Tokerau Beach and Rangiputa depending on wind direction.

To find us, turn up Inland Road from SH10 onto the Karikari Peninsula, 10k West of Taipa. Keep going on Inland Road until you see a phone box and service station on your right. Continue straight on, and take the first right into Doubtless Bay Drive. Follow the road around to the right and take the first left into Whatuwhiwhi Road. Turn left into the Dive and Kitesurf school.

Our kitesurfing instructors

Our chief instructor, Berny, has been an IKO (International Kiteboarding Organisation) and BKSA (British Kitesurfing Association) instructor since 2002, and is an IKO Examiner at the forefront of kitesurf tuition worldwide. Zoe, our other full time IKO/BKSA instructor, has been teaching since 2003. We love what we do so much, you can’t help but enjoy yourself too!
